Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has reaffirmed the legislature’s preparedness to collaborate with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abeokuta branch, to strengthen the rule of law through legislation that reflects contemporary public needs.
He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Association’s executive members, led by its Branch Chairman, Barrister Kayode Aderemi, at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Elemide said the Assembly would benefit from the legal expertise of the NBA in producing laws that are coherent, user-friendly and free from duplication. He added that the 10th legislature had prioritised the digitisation of all laws passed, to ensure they are readily accessible to the public.
“We need the input of the Bar in helping us make laws that are practical, well-organised, and easily available to all. That’s why we are working towards a complete digital record of all our enacted laws,” the Speaker said.
Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, who also addressed the gathering, called for continued cooperation with the legal body, particularly in tackling overcrowding in correctional facilities. He referred to a recent resolution of the Assembly targeted at easing congestion in custodial centres across the state.
Barrister Aderemi, in response, restated the Association’s commitment to offering legal expertise and assistance that would support legislative efficiency and advance reforms within the justice system.
In a separate engagement, the Speaker received Hon. Morenkeji Olukoyejo, Chairman of the 6th Assembly of the Nigerian Youth Parliament representing Ogun West, who paid a familiarisation visit. Elemide restated the Assembly’s support for youth-centred initiatives and pledged to back policies that foster development, leadership capacity, and empowerment among young people.
