Authorities in Ondo State have arrested a man, Eze Amadi, in connection with the alleged killing of 28-year-old Ifeanyi Otu in Kajola, Odigbo Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. He added that Amadi would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation and urged the community to remain calm.
Residents of Kajola were reportedly thrown into mourning earlier this week after Otu was allegedly tortured to death and concealed inside a water drum by the suspect, who attempted to transport the body on a motorcycle. Community members apprehended Amadi before he could dispose of the corpse.
The victim’s father, Michael Otu, described the killing as devastating. “I was at home when I received a call that my son’s body, wrapped in foam, had been found inside a water drum. Justice must be served in this case,” he said.
Neighbors reported that both the victim and the suspect lived in the same community, but the motive behind the killing remains unclear. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
