The Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has completed a crucial training program on drone operation and jammer systems, marking a significant step in its efforts to enhance security across its area of responsibility.
The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, presided over the closing ceremony in Makurdi, Benue State.
General Gara highlighted that the training will boost the troops’ operational efficiency, particularly in force protection, surveillance, and search-and-rescue missions.
He noted that the newly acquired drone capability will give soldiers a decisive advantage, allowing them to identify objects and monitor activities from a distance of over 3,000 meters.
“With these drones, we can effectively identify their hideouts and take appropriate action,” General Gara stated, referring to the criminal elements responsible for threatening peace and security.
He urged the participants to apply their new skills to build on OPWS’s recent operational successes.
General Gara expressed his profound appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for approving the issuance of the drones and the training itself.
He also commended key military leaders, including the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) and the Chief of Training (Army), as well as Major General UG Ogeleka, Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, for mobilizing a team of instructors on short notice.
He also acknowledged Colonel Kolawole Bukoye, the Commander of the 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 OPWS, for hosting the event.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating officers, Captain OJ Abua thanked the Force Commander for the valuable training opportunity and assured him that the knowledge gained would be used effectively in the field.
