The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has appealed to residents to ensure that underage children and foreign nationals do not participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which precedes the 2026 governorship election.

Addressing an expanded stakeholders’ engagement at the commission’s state headquarters on Tuesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke, announced that the CVR will commence on 18 August 2025 with an online registration phase.

Agboke encouraged eligible citizens to visit the commission’s website and input their personal details to generate a registration slip, which they will then present at their local government INEC office for completion of the process. He noted that provisions have been made to ensure persons with disabilities can participate without hindrance.

“I call on Osun residents to register in an orderly manner. While participation should be massive, parents and guardians must prevent minors from registering. Any underage individual caught in the process will face sanctions under the Electoral Act. We must also be vigilant to stop foreign nationals from taking part in the CVR,” he said.

On inclusivity, Agboke reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to providing equal access for persons with disabilities in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and international standards, assuring that they would be attended to in the same manner as other registrants.

He outlined the election timetable, stating that party primaries and the resolution of related disputes will run from 24 November to 15 December 2025. Submission of forms EC9 (personal particulars of candidates) and EC9B (list of nominated candidates) will take place on the commission’s nomination portal between 9 a.m. on 15 January and 6 p.m. on 9 February 2026.

Access codes for submitting nomination forms will be available from 15 December 2025 at INEC’s headquarters. Agboke advised political parties and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the timetable, noting that copies would be distributed at the meeting.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for 8 August 2026.
