Paul Ibe, Senior Special Assistant on Media to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has fired back at Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, after he mocked Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State.

Onanuga, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, had ridiculed Obi’s grasp of economics, saying:

“Peter Obi is schooled in introductory economics, as he only understands the economics of trading.”

Reacting through his verified X handle on Friday, October 24, 2025, Paul Ibe defended Peter Obi, describing his approach to economics as one that builds value and empowers citizens rather than promotes propaganda.

In his words:

“Bayo, you are very proficient in bigotry economics, so I understand why real economics confuses you. Peter Obi’s kind of economics builds value, not propaganda; it feeds people, not egos.”

The online exchange has since sparked debate among political observers and supporters, with many weighing in on the state of Nigeria’s economy and leadership under President Tinubu

Why This Matters

The often verbal clash between key media aides of Nigeria’s top political figures—Atiku Abubakar, Bola Tinubu, and Peter Obi—highlights the deep political and ideological divide shaping Nigeria’s future. It also reflects growing public concern about the government’s economic direction and the need for leaders who prioritize value-driven policies over political propaganda.
