PDP Dismisses APC Chairman’s Claim to Install Plateau Governor in 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has strongly dismissed claims by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, that the APC will “install” a governor in Plateau during the 2027 elections.
Reacting to Yilwatda’s comments on a live radio programme in Jos, PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande, described the statement as “mere ambition and rhetoric,” insisting that only the people of Plateau can decide who governs them.
“While the PDP acknowledges that Professor Nentawe is free to dream and express his opinion, it is worth reminding him that producing the next governor of our dear State requires far more than mere ambition or rhetoric,” Amande said.
PDP’s Strength in Plateau
The PDP pointed to its long-standing presence across Plateau, highlighting its structures in every ward and local government area. Amande also referenced the “people’s governor,” Caleb Mutfwang, as proof of the party’s governance record and people-centred policies.
He stressed that leadership goes beyond personal ambition, adding that broad-based acceptance, proven capacity, and credibility before the electorate are the qualities required to win elections—qualities the PDP claims to have consistently demonstrated.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The party reaffirmed its focus on unity, democratic consolidation, and development, pledging to strengthen internal cohesion and deepen engagement with Plateau citizens ahead of the next polls.
“Our focus remains on strengthening our unity, consolidating democratic gains, and working closely with the people to ensure more progress and development in the State,” Amande added.
The PDP also promised to engage voters constructively, emphasising fairness, accountability, and service delivery as its guiding principles going into 2027.
Urging members and supporters to remain steadfast, the party assured that it is “fully prepared to once more earn the people’s trust at the polls come 2027.
