Peter Obi Joining ADC Would Be Best Christmas Gift for Nigerians — Akuma

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has expressed excitement over reports suggesting that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is set to join the party.

Reacting to the development, Akuma described Obi’s reported move to the ADC as a potential turning point in efforts by opposition forces to prevent President Bola

Ahmed Tinubu from securing a second term in office beyond May 2027.
Akuma said he had long advocated for a political alliance between Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, arguing that opposition unity remains the most effective strategy for unseating an incumbent government.

According to him, history has shown that incumbents are often defeated when opposition heavyweights close ranks and work together.
“As far as I am concerned, the news that Peter Obi has concluded arrangements to join the African Democratic Congress is the best Christmas gift for Nigerians who have been impoverished by the current administration,” Akuma said.

He added that the development has renewed hope among citizens who feared that Obi and Atiku might contest separately in 2027, a scenario he believes would favour the ruling party.
Akuma further urged Obi’s supporters to begin registering with the ADC, insisting that the party now represents a clear political direction.

He criticised the Tinubu administration, accusing it of failing to deliver economic relief despite the removal of fuel subsidy and increased public borrowing.
