Shehu Sani Speaks on Obi vs Deji Legal Suit: “Keep Money for Lawyers”
Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has waded into the brewing legal battle between Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and activist-lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
Speaking on the controversy, Shehu Sani advised Nigerians, especially young social media users, to exercise caution in what they post online, stressing that reckless comments can easily land people in court.
The former lawmaker noted that Peter Obi is reportedly preparing to sue Deji Adeyanju for defamation, following Adeyanju’s recent allegations. While acknowledging that Deji is a lawyer who can defend himself, Sani warned that many others may not have such an advantage. He said on his verified X account: “Luckily, Deji is a lawyer and will not spend much to defend himself. But my advice to young comrades on social media is not to be afraid of expressing your views, only remember to keep money aside to pay your lawyers in case you are dragged to court,” Sani said.
He further cautioned that many rights groups that often pledge support when cases start usually disappear once the matter drags on. According to him, people should learn that not every thought or opinion deserves to be shared publicly.
Sani’s intervention comes as tension builds over Obi’s possible defamation suit against Adeyanju, which has continued to dominate political discussions online
