Peter Obi Visits Niger State Flood Victims, Makes Shocking Donations

In a heartfelt response to the devastating floods that struck Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, visited the affected region on June 2, 2025. The floods, resulting from intense predawn rainfall, claimed over 200 lives, left approximately 500 individuals missing, and displaced more than 3,000 residents, marking one of the most severe natural disasters in the area’s history .

During his visit, Obi donated ₦20 million to support the victims and pledged to provide a trailer load of grains to aid those affected by the disaster . He met with Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who received him on behalf of Governor Umar Bago, to express his condolences and solidarity with the people of Niger State .

Obi emphasized the need for proactive disaster management and called on the federal government, emergency agencies, and all Nigerians to rally around the victims. He highlighted the importance of investing in sustainable solutions to protect vulnerable communities from future disasters .

In addition to his immediate support, Obi expressed plans to personally visit Mokwa at a later date to meet with the victims and offer further assistance .
