Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has met with the leadership of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.
The meeting, which took place on September 16, was hosted by Oba Oladipo Olaitan, leader of Afenifere and head of a coalition of ethnic nationality groups, including PANDEF and the Middle Belt Forum.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Obi revealed that their discussions focused on the state of the nation, especially issues surrounding education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
“I sincerely thank them for their courage for always standing out for fearless justice and the unity of our country, and urge them not to relent,” Obi wrote.
The former Anambra governor reaffirmed his commitment to building an all-inclusive and united Nigeria, stressing that no part of the country will be left behind.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened political debates about national unity and development, further positioning Obi as a figure pushing for dialogue and collaboration across ethnic and regional lines
