Peter Obi’s Son Breaks Silence on Viral Photos, Dismisses Gossip as “Distraction”
Oseloka Obi, son of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, has finally addressed the viral photos and rumors about his personal life that have been making the rounds on social media.
In a strongly worded statement released this week, Oseloka described the trending gossip as “fiction spun from pictures” and a clear attempt to distract Nigerians from the country’s real challenges.
The Viral Photos and Rumors
The controversy began after images of Oseloka with British-Nigerian Kent Okwesa surfaced online, sparking unfounded speculation about his sexuality.
Reacting to the viral gossip, Oseloka said the pictures were taken among friends and colleagues but deliberately misrepresented to fuel sensational headlines.
“I have no social media presence and no interest in maintaining one, so I rarely correct these falsehoods,” he explained. “Because of my father’s involvement in Nigerian politics, there has been a persistent curiosity—and, at times, malicious obsession—with me.”
“Nigeria Has Bigger Problems”
Oseloka stressed that Nigerians should be more concerned about pressing national issues such as insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, and economic decline rather than wasting energy on baseless gossip about his private life.
“Yet, for some, the priority is to spread gossip about who Peter Obi’s son appears with in a photo. This is a distraction from the real crises that matter to all Nigerians,” he said.
Standing on His Own Feet
The UK-based actor and filmmaker also pointed out that, unlike many children of politicians, he has never depended on nepotism or his father’s influence.
“I was raised to know that my father’s wealth is not mine, and that I must build my own life. Unlike many children of Nigerian politicians, I have never relied on nepotism,” he stated.
He added that his acting career sometimes requires him to portray different roles that do not define his personal life.
Backing His Father’s Vision for Nigeria
Despite the smear campaign, Oseloka reaffirmed his support for Peter Obi, noting that his choice is based on merit and not just family ties.
“My father has my vote, not because he is my father, but because he is the right man for the job,” he concluded.
