The Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association (PLABOMA) on Monday 7th July paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, where they were warmly received by the Commissioner, Hon. Adams Bulus Lekshak, alongside the ministry’s Permanent Secretary and Directors.

The visit, according to the association, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Ministry and credible online media practitioners for effective information dissemination, especially on policies, programs, and projects that affect the grassroots.
In his opening remarks, PLABOMA Secretary, Ibrahim Kallamu, who delivered a familiarization speech, gave an overview of the association’s history, growth, and mission. He noted that PLABOMA, which was established in 2020 and currently chaired by Mr. Mathew Tegha, comprises over 30 verified members managing influential platforms with strong followership across the state.
“Our mission is clear: to provide credible, timely, and reliable information; to promote responsible journalism; and to combat the spread of fake news. We are storytellers, watchdogs, and bridges between the people and policymakers,” Kallamu stated.
He emphasized the group’s commitment to Plateau State’s development, stating, “While many national platforms focus on Abuja and Lagos, PLABOMA speaks to the indigenous communities in the language they understand. We are not just here for a visit — we seek your collaboration to ensure government efforts reach the grassroots effectively.”
Also speaking during the visit, PLABOMA’s Public Relations Officer, Peter Akpah, addressed misconceptions surrounding the work of bloggers. He highlighted the credibility of PLABOMA members, their rigorous vetting process, and their efforts to support truth-telling and public enlightenment.
“We are not here to act as a mouthpiece for the government, neither are we against it. What drives us is collective progress. When citizens see verified updates on ministry activities, their trust in governance improves. We are open to working with MDAs to amplify government impact, especially in underserved communities,” Akpah said.
He cited examples of PLABOMA’s work with national bodies, including the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and shared that some members have been approached from across the globe to amplify local issues.
In his response, Hon. Adams Bulus Lekshak welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit, acknowledging the importance of digital media in governance.
“Social media is a powerful but delicate space. While it has helped disseminate useful information, it can also cause chaos if misused,” the Commissioner said. “As a coordinating ministry, we sometimes share budget performance reports and other updates through various platforms, and we know how sensitive that information can be.”
He encouraged PLABOMA to maintain its ethical standards and prioritize fact-checking before publication. “Once you verify your facts and report responsibly, government will continue to collaborate with you. Our governor is committed to open governance, and we believe partnerships like this will help the people get timely and accurate information,” he added.
The Commissioner also highlighted ongoing citizen engagement efforts by the Ministry, including public consultations across the state’s 43 zones as part of the budget processing cycle. He assured PLABOMA of the Ministry’s willingness to work with credible digital media stakeholders to foster transparency and public participation.
Prominent member platforms of PLABOMA include Viewpoint Nigeria, Mathew Tegha Blog, Farmhouse Reporters, TeamWaka, Masarakim Blog, State of Plateau, Source24 News, Clauster Channel, InsideNews Blog, The News Crown, We Jos Rock, Jos Events, among others.
The visit ended on a positive note with both parties expressing commitment to strengthening synergy for the development of Plateau State.
