The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended seven individuals linked to a cult-related assault, armed robbery, and the illegal possession of a firearm and a human skull.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Timfon John, the Command’s spokesperson, made the disclosure in a statement released in Uyo on Monday.
She said the arrests followed a complaint filed on 25 August 2025 by a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, who alleged that he was ambushed and attacked with dangerous weapons along Ikot Osurua Road by members of the banned Ku Klux Klans Confraternity.
The victim, who had previously renounced his cult membership, was left unconscious with serious injuries. His Redmi 13C Android phone and N41,000 in cash were also stolen during the assault.
DSP John confirmed, “On 28 August 2025, operatives of the Command apprehended seven suspects in connection with a cult-related assault, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm and human skull.”
Recovered items included a locally made short gun, seven live cartridges, a bottle containing a substance suspected to be black oil, and another bottle of Guyanese oil believed to be intended for ritual purposes.
The arrested individuals have been named as Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, Saviour Dany Akpan, Emmanuel Friday Umoh, Augustine Uduak Okon, Mary Ating Asukwo, and Itohowo Christopher Uko.
DSP John stated that investigations are ongoing and assured that the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of the gang who remain at large. She added that further updates would be provided to the public.
