Professor Shedrack Gaya Best has officially started work as the new Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos. He assumed office on Monday, July 28, 2025, after his appointment on July 24.
Students warmly welcomed him during an event organized by the Students Union Government (SUG). The SUG President, Comrade Donald Yaksut Doedel, led the welcome.
During the event, Professor Best shared his plans for the university. He said the Department of Mass Communication will soon become a full faculty. He added that the university wants to provide better education that meets today’s needs.
He also said that new programs in Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences will start in October 2025. According to him, the university will soon begin building new structures for these programs.
Professor Best said more programs will be added, including Statistics, Religious and Cultural Studies. He also plans to expand the Faculty of Arts.
To improve student life, he promised to build more hostels. “By the next academic session, students will benefit from 24-hour internet services on campus,” he said.
He also said the university will hire doctors and nurses. This will help students get medical care on campus.
Professor Best spoke about the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NEL Fund). He explained that only current students can benefit. “ICPC has advised us to refrain from disbursing funds to graduates,” he said.
He thanked the students and staff for the peaceful environment on campus. He said he is happy to work with them to make PLASU better.
SUG President, Comrade Doedel, praised the Vice Chancellor’s plans. He said students will support his vision.
Rt. Hon. David Itse, President of the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS), also welcomed Professor Best. He said the new VC’s ideas are good for the future of the university.
With these new plans and energy, PLASU looks forward to growth under Professor Best’s leadership.
