Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned seven newly upgraded road projects in Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.
The projects, which span a total of 16.4km, include:
- Reconstruction of the 3.3km Hospital Road (Phase 1),
- Construction of the 7km Samuel Ekundayo–Toga Road (Phases 1 & 2),
- Rehabilitation and upgrading of the Aradagun–Mosafejo–Ilado–Imeke Road (Phase 3).
Speaking during the commissioning, Sanwo-Olu said the improved infrastructure would significantly impact residents of Badagry and enhance trade, tourism, and connectivity across the region.
“These roads will stimulate the tourism sector, boost commerce, and open up remote areas,” the governor stated.
“We are fulfilling promises made, particularly with the virtual commissioning of the 6.65km road linking Imeke, Ajido, and Iworo to Epeme Road via a 300-metre bridge.”
Sanwo-Olu highlighted how the road upgrades serve as alternatives to the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, improving mobility and reducing travel time.
The governor further explained:
- Samuel Ekundayo–Toga Road connects Joseph Dosu Road to the Lagos–Badagry Expressway and serves as a bypass from Badagry Roundabout to Limca/Ibereko.
- Hospital Road (Phase 1) links Idale, Akarakunmoh, Povita, Topo, and Ajido to the expressway through Joseph Dosu Road.
He added that the new road networks will boost local commerce, improve access to key communities, and contribute to Lagos State’s and Nigeria’s GDP growth.
Sanwo-Olu also revealed plans to extend Hospital Road to Topo and assured residents of Oko Afo, Ilogbo, Eremi, and Pota that their roads would be commissioned soon.
“Badagry is of immense economic importance,” he said.
“It shares an international boundary and serves as a gateway to at least five West African countries.”
He urged residents and community leaders to safeguard the newly completed infrastructure for future generations.
Commending the governor, Rep. Sesi Whingan (Badagry Federal Constituency) thanked him for linking communities through strategic roads and requested assistance on other neglected routes, including the Mowo–Ikoga and Ajara–Erekiti roads.
Chairman of Badagry LGA, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, said the roads were more than just infrastructure.
“They are lifelines connecting communities, boosting commerce, and improving access to education, healthcare, and social services,” Hunpe said.
Similarly, Mr. Kumayon Ajose, Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, appealed for further economic intervention to alleviate hardship and support more community-based development projects.
