Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

In a statement he shared on X, Saraki described the incident which reportedly killed community leaders and soldiers, attacked a camp for displaced people, and led to the abduction of many women and children as disturbing and inhumane.

He praised the quick response of the Nigerian Air Force but said the attack exposed serious problems in the country’s security system.

Saraki said the scale of the attack suggests deeper failures in intelligence and security coordination.

“While the Nigerian Air Force’s response is commendable, the wider security gaps that allowed such an attack to happen remain worrying,” he said.

He added that an operation of that size and level of coordination shows the urgent need to review Nigeria’s intelligence system and improve consistent air support in the Northeast.

“An attack of this scale and coordination does not happen in isolation. It shows the need to reassess our intelligence-gathering systems and strengthen sustained, localised air support across the Northeast,” he added.

Saraki also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack, including the Chief Imam, community elders, and soldiers from the 82 Division Task Force Battalion who were defending the area.

He said his thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and residents who have now been forced to flee their homes.
