“Muslim-Muslim Ticket Was Just Strategy to Win Election” — Sokoto Islamic Scholar Knocks Tinubu

A Sokoto-based Islamic scholar, Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu adopted the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election primarily as a political strategy to secure victory rather than to advance the interests of Muslims.

Speaking during his Eid sermon in Sokoto on Friday, March 20, the cleric argued that the controversial ticket was designed to attract votes but has not translated into tangible benefits for Muslim communities.

“Tinubu won the election in 2023 using the Muslim-Muslim ticket, but presently Muslims are suffering under him. He is not after Muslims or Islam,” he said.

Professor Ibrahim further claimed that the northern region, which is predominantly Muslim, has not received adequate attention under the current administration.

“The northern region which is predominantly Muslim is not his priority either. What he is only after is Lagos, and even in Lagos, his allies are the Christians,” he added.

The cleric also cautioned Islamic leaders against endorsing political candidates based solely on religious considerations in future elections. According to him, support for leaders should be based on performance and tangible achievements rather than religious sentiment.

He emphasized the need for issue-based campaigns, urging Nigerians to evaluate leaders based on critical sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, the economy, business growth, and electricity supply.

“Whosoever will campaign for Tinubu should tell us what he did for us. But if there is nothing to campaign for him with, we should be allowed to try other candidates—maybe we can get relief,” he stated.

The report was earlier published by Daily Trust.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain a response from the Presidency were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to presidential spokespersons had not been returned.
