Peter Obi’s Book Launch Ignites National Conversation on Political Accountability
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian capital buzzed with political energy and intellectual fervour on Monday, June 10, as political leaders, activists, and civil society actors gathered for the official presentation of a new political biography titled “Obi: The Political Change Agent.”
The book, authored by veteran journalist Ike Abonyi, chronicles the public life, leadership style, and democratic philosophy of Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
Held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, the event attracted key political stakeholders, including Labour Party leaders, members of the Obidient Movement, civil society representatives, and prominent media personalities.
A Movement Takes Shape
The occasion marked more than a book launch—it was a symbolic consolidation of the Obidient Movement, which has grown beyond digital activism into a nationwide political awakening. According to event speakers, the movement is now formally active in 28 states and 540 of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, with over 200 volunteer groups certified.
In her opening remarks, Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairperson of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, described Peter Obi as “a voice for a generation seeking truth, integrity, and accountability.” She emphasized that the book encapsulates the ideals of servant leadership, prudent governance, and principled politics, values she said are crucial for Nigeria’s rebirth.
“This book should not be seen as a closure, but as the beginning of a critical national conversation about our democratic future,” Usman asserted.
A Citizens-Led Revolution
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, described the biography as “a moral compass for citizens committed to a better Nigeria.”
Tanko stressed that the movement transcends partisan politics.
This is not just about Peter Obi. It is about a collective demand for accountable governance and grassroots-led democracy,” he noted.
He further announced the establishment of a national secretariat and disclosed plans to strengthen the movement’s structure ahead of future electoral engagements.
Leaders Weigh In
Former Anambra State Secretary to the Government, Oseloka Obaze, offered historical context, noting that Peter Obi’s leadership style—rooted in frugality, transparency, and results—has remained consistent across roles.
Speaking at the event, Peter Obi expressed gratitude for the widespread support, stating that the book is “not about glorifying a person but documenting the journey of leadership guided by conscience.”
National Dialogue Begins
Throughout the launch, speakers challenged Nigerians to shift away from money-driven politics and embrace a leadership model based on trust, character, and service.
The atmosphere was vibrant, charged with optimism, and reflective of a growing national consciousness. The presence of key political actors like Governor Alex Otti, senior Labour Party officials, and youth leaders signaled a renewed momentum within the Obidient camp.
