Three people sustained injuries on Monday night following a serious multi-vehicle collision involving an unregistered Toyota Camry, a commercial Suzuki bus, and a tricycle along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ota, Ogun State.

The accident occurred at about 8:20 p.m. near the Iron Market area, causing significant disruption to traffic along the busy highway. The Ota Divisional Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Salau Hammed, disclosed the details during a press briefing on Tuesday.

Mr Hammed explained that initial investigations indicated the Toyota Camry was travelling at excessive speed when the driver lost control, swerving into a tricycle and a Suzuki commercial bus bearing registration number KRD 246 YK.

A total of 16 people were involved in the incident. Three individuals, two men and a woman, suffered injuries of varying degrees and were immediately taken to Adetutu Hospital in the Ilepa area of Ota for treatment.

“The Camry was reportedly at high speed and lost control before ramming into the tricycle and the Suzuki bus. Fortunately, we recorded no deaths, although three people were injured,” Mr Hammed said.

He confirmed that TRACE operatives arrived promptly at the scene to clear the wreckage and ensure the free flow of traffic along the affected section of the expressway.

Mr Hammed appealed to motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed regulations, stressing that night-time overspeeding remains a major cause of road crashes.
