A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night, September 12, 2025, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, leaving several people trapped under the debris.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, said the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Emergency officials immediately mobilised to the site to begin rescue operations.

“While eyewitness accounts vary, with some saying six people were trapped and others reporting five, emergency responders have so far rescued four adult males alive and taken them to the hospital for treatment,” NEMA stated.

Rescue teams from NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other responders worked through the night to search for survivors. The exact number of people still trapped remains unconfirmed.

Authorities have cordoned off the site to secure the area and ensure smooth rescue operations.

“The search and rescue operation is continuing into
the night, with responders assuring that no effort will be spared to save lives,” NEMA added.
