Troost-Ekong Rallies Super Eagles Ahead of Must-Win Clash Against Lesotho

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has declared that Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Lesotho is a must-win encounter, emphasizing the team’s determination to begin their qualification campaign on a strong note.

Speaking during a pre-match media session, Troost-Ekong said the team understands what is at stake and is fully committed to giving Nigerians something to cheer about.

“We know what this game means — not just for us but for the millions of fans watching. We must win and make a statement from the very first match,” the PAOK Salonika defender said confidently.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier will see the Super Eagles host Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The match is expected to test Nigeria’s attacking firepower under new head coach Finidi George, who is seeking his first competitive victory in charge.

Troost-Ekong, who played a key role in Nigeria’s run to the AFCON 2023 final, added that the squad is united and motivated to secure all three points.

“The spirit in camp is high. Everyone knows their role, and we are ready to fight for victory,” he said.

The Super Eagles will also face Zimbabwe and South Africa in subsequent qualifying matches as they aim to secure a place in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
