Agbakoba Backs Tinubu on Sack of Service Chiefs, Says Move Was Justified If Coup Rumour Was True

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Olisa Agbakoba, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to reshuffle the nation’s service chiefs, describing it as a bold and sensible move.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Friday, Agbakoba said Tinubu acted rightly, especially if there was any truth to the rumoured coup.

“You have a president who is prepared to take tough decisions, and we know that he likes to do so,” the former NBA president stated. “I think he has taken the right step because his predecessor, the late President Muhammadu Buhari, avoided such bold moves and allowed his military team to stay far longer than they should have.”

Agbakoba added that the President’s decision to change the security leadership was in line with efforts to strengthen the nation’s defence architecture.

“So, if it’s indeed true that there was a rumoured coup, then he’s acted sensibly. What we now want to see is the impact of this decision,” he concluded.
