The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack by suspected gunmen in Angwan Rukuba community.
This follows earlier reports of gunshots that triggered panic across the area on Sunday night.
In an official statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government confirmed that the incident, which occurred at Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, resulted in loss of lives and multiple injuries.
According to the statement, the curfew takes effect from 12 midnight on March 29 to April 1, 2026, as part of urgent measures to restore order and prevent further breakdown of law and security.
Earlier unverified reports had indicated that victims were rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for treatment.
The government has now confirmed casualties, although the exact number of deaths and injured persons has not yet been disclosed.
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked”, and assured residents that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible.
The government also urged residents to:
– Remain calm
-Stay indoors during the curfew period
-Cooperate with security agencies
-Provide useful information to aid investigations
Security presence is expected to be intensified across Jos North to enforce compliance and maintain peace.
