Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to transform Akure into a modern capital city comparable to the best across Nigeria.
He explained that the ongoing urban renewal projects in the Alagbaka area are only the beginning of broader initiatives intended to elevate the city into a world-class capital. The governor further pledged that work would be accelerated on major road networks, including Ijoka Road and the Irese flyover, alongside several other road projects under consideration.
Governor Aiyedatiwa gave this assurance on Thursday, September 11, 2025, during the flag-off of the construction of 32 units of four-bedroom terraced residential buildings for members of the State Executive Council.
The groundbreaking, held at the Government House Grounds, Alagbaka, Akure, marked what the governor described as a milestone project. He said it was designed not only to meet the housing needs of cabinet members but also to reinforce infrastructural development in the state capital.
Speaking at the event, the governor explained that the project was conceived to address the persistent problem of insufficient government quarters for senior officials. According to him, only a few cabinet members had previously benefited from accommodation within secured government housing facilities.
“This project is significant as it provides modern terraced buildings with amenities that guarantee the safety and comfort of our cabinet members. Each unit is carefully designed, combining efficiency of space with the security of a gated environment,” he stated.
The new estate will feature 28 terraced houses in five clusters, four stand-alone homes, a gatehouse, and a dedicated maintenance utility block to ensure proper management.
Governor Aiyedatiwa stressed that the initiative aligns with his administration’s OUR EASE agenda and reflects his commitment to improving the welfare of those steering the machinery of government. He appealed for patience from other arms of government, particularly the legislature and judiciary, assuring them that similar developments would be extended to them in due time. He also restated his intention to roll out an affordable housing scheme for civil servants across the state.
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, described the project as a clear demonstration of the governor’s determination to close the state’s infrastructure gap and called on the contractor to deliver as scheduled.
Chief Technical Officer of Cosgrove Investment Ltd., Engr. Baba Kalli, pledged that the estate would be built to the highest standards, describing it as a joint vision of progress, innovation, and good governance.
The Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Biola Oladapo, praised the governor’s foresight and referred to the initiative as a legacy project that would strengthen unity, productivity, and the welfare of cabinet members.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, also lauded the governor and encouraged him to sustain the pace of development in the state capital.
The ceremony was attended by top government functionaries, including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip; members of the State Executive Council; lawmakers; traditional rulers; religious leaders; and other dignitaries.
