11 states to face flooding this week, as FG urges residents to evacuate


11 States are most likely to expeirence flooding this week, the Federal Ministry of Environment, through the National Flood Early Warning Centre has predicted.

In a statement on Sunday, the Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Mr Usman Abdullahi Bokani noted that the floods may occur between 14th and 18th September, 2025.

The statement listed the affected states and communities to include Adamawa (Ganye, Natubi), Benue (Abinsi, Agyo, Gogo, Ito, Makurdi, Udoma and Ukpiam), Nasarawa (Agima, Rukubi and Odogbo), and Taraba (Beli, Serti and Donga).

Others are Delta (Umugboma, Umukwata, Abraka, Aboh and Okpo-Krika), Niger (Rijau), Kebbi (Ribah), Kano (Gwarzo and Karaye), Katsina (Jibia), Sokoto (Makira), and Zamfara (Kaura Namoda, Shinkafi, Maradun, Gusau, Anka and Bungudu).

The advisory further noted that due to rising water levels of River Gongola, River Benue, and River Niger, communities along their flood plains stretching up to Numan and Lokoja should take urgent steps to relocate to safer grounds.

The ministry urged relevant stakeholders, including state governments, to act swiftly and provide necessary support.

It also called on residents to pay attention only to verified updates and cooperate fully with emergency directives.
