Elders and community leaders in Yelewata, Benue State, have reportedly apologised to former Anambra State Governor and 2027 National Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi, over the recent incident that disrupted his visit to the community.
The elders expressed regret over what happened during Obi’s visit and appealed to him not to allow the incident to define his relationship with the people of Yelewata and Benue State.
They reportedly urged the former governor to return to Yelewata, assuring him that the people remain open to receiving him and appreciating his concern for communities affected by insecurity and displacement.
The appeal comes after the controversy surrounding Obi’s earlier visit, during which youths reportedly blocked his movement and prevented him from accessing the community.
The elders’ apology is being seen as an effort to de-escalate tensions and reaffirm the community’s respect for Obi and his decision to identify with victims of insecurity in the area.
