Wike Calls APC Governors ‘Politically Lazy’, Says ‘Don’t Use Tinubu As Excuse’
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “politically lazy” following their opposition to his political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday.
The FCT minister was responding to the position of APC governors who have opposed his proposed Rainbow Coalition, amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governors, led by their chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, had stated that they would not support or endorse any alliance they believe could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or affect APC candidates contesting at other levels.

Wike, however, argued that his decision to support President Tinubu does not amount to abandoning his political interests or preventing other political parties from fielding candidates.
“They are politically lazy. When you have your local problems, don’t use Mr President as your excuse,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor also maintained that the disagreements surrounding his political activities did not begin with his decision to support Tinubu.
According to him, he faced opposition from some political actors while serving as governor of Rivers State and later after becoming FCT minister.
“This thing did not start today. It started at a ministerial position. They were not happy that I was Minister of FCT. Also, they were unhappy when I was governor,” he said.
Wike further suggested that some of his critics might have a different understanding of his decisions if they had access to the information available to him.
