Uzodimma Heads To Appeal Court As Okorocha Celebrates Federal High Court Victory
The political battle between Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and former governor Rochas Okorocha over the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Imo West District has taken a fresh turn, as Uzodimma’s camp moves to challenge the Federal High Court judgment at the Court of Appeal.
The development comes barely 24 hours after Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified Uzodimma’s recognition as the APC candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections and declared Okorocha the authentic winner of the party’s May 18, 2026 senatorial primary.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish Okorocha’s name as the party’s candidate and restrained Uzodimma from parading himself as the APC flagbearer for the January 16, 2027 senatorial election.
However, the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, rejected the judgment, describing it as a travesty of justice.
Emelumba disclosed that the state government would approach the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling and seek its reversal.
The Imo APC chapter has also maintained that Uzodimma remains its duly nominated candidate, insisting that he won the party’s senatorial primary.
Meanwhile, Okorocha has welcomed the judgment, declaring that justice has finally prevailed.
Reacting to the development, the former governor reportedly expressed appreciation to the judiciary, adding that the Presidency was tired of what he described as nonsense.
The unfolding legal battle is expected to attract further attention as both camps prepare for the next stage of the dispute, with the final determination of the APC’s Imo West senatorial ticket now subject to the appellate court process.
Headlineswave reports that the Imo State Commissioner for Information has announced plans to challenge the Federal High Court judgment at the Court of Appeal.
The appeal process and any subsequent court decisions will determine the final outcome of the dispute.
