A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by its National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, has declared Professor Chris Uba as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, distancing itself from reports linking former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the party’s presidential ticket.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the faction insisted that Atiku is neither the ADC’s presidential candidate nor has he ever been nominated by the party for the 2027 election.

The group also disowned another faction reportedly led by former Senate President David Mark, describing it as an unauthorized body without constitutional or legal recognition to act on behalf of the party.

According to the statement, the ADC has completed its internal nomination process in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and its constitution, producing Professor Chris Uba as its presidential flag bearer.

The faction maintained that the party is not involved in any merger, alliance, or coalition with other political parties, stressing that it remains an independent political platform committed to contesting the 2027 elections on its own.

It further warned Atiku Abubakar against presenting himself as the ADC’s presidential candidate, describing the party as “not a rental platform” for politicians pursuing personal ambitions.

The group vowed to pursue all legal and constitutional measures necessary to protect the party’s identity and prevent what it called unauthorized appropriation of its structure.

It also dismissed claims that there were plots to stop the ADC from participating in the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigeria’s electoral process.

The faction urged party members, supporters, stakeholders, security agencies, and the general public to disregard statements issued by unauthorized groups, insisting that only its leadership represents the authentic position of the ADC.

The development highlights the ongoing leadership dispute within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s structure and direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
