Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has officially revised parts of its 2027 primary election timetable, shifting some activities to next week following internal adjustments and consultations.
The latest development comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party insisting that its presidential primary election date remains unchanged despite widespread speculation online.
According to a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the House of Representatives primary election earlier scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, has now been postponed till Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The party clarified that other primary election dates remain intact under the revised schedule.

Below is the updated timetable released by the APC for its 2027 primary elections:
House of Representatives Primary — Saturday, May 16, 2026
Senate Primary — Monday, May 18, 2026
State House of Assembly Primary — Wednesday, May 20, 2026

Presidential Primary — Saturday, May 23, 2026
APC Speaks On Postponement Rumours
The APC also dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that the presidential primary had been postponed indefinitely.
The party described such reports as “false and misleading,” insisting that preparations for the May 23 presidential primary are ongoing.
Earlier in April, the APC had already adjusted parts of its broader election timetable, including screening exercises and appeal processes, following the release of the revised 2027 election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Why APC Adjusted the Timetable
Party officials said the changes were made to align with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC’s updated electoral guidelines for the 2027 general elections.
INEC had earlier announced that:
Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on January 16, 2027.
Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The electoral commission also fixed April 23 to May 30, 2026, as the official window for political parties to conduct primaries and resolve disputes arising from them.
Political Tension Builds Ahead of Primaries
The revised timetable comes as political tension continues to build within major parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reports indicate that some aspirants within the APC have already expressed dissatisfaction over alleged consensus arrangements in certain constituencies, particularly regarding the House of Representatives primaries.
Observers believe the coming days will shape the internal dynamics of the ruling party as aspirants battle for tickets across various elective positions.
