Security operatives have arrested the self-acclaimed Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Headlineswave reports that Adeyemi was reportedly arrested on Tuesday at a hideout in Osun State by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department/Intelligence Response Team (FID/IRT) shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest for repeatedly failing to appear in court to answer criminal charges.
A police spokesperson confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect would be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further legal proceedings.
Court Issues Bench Warrant
The Federal High Court issued the warrant after Adeyemi failed to attend his scheduled arraignment despite several adjournments.
During the proceedings, his lawyer, Genesis Francis, told the court that he had been unable to persuade his client to appear.
According to the defence counsel, Adeyemi expressed concerns about his safety in an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the case had attracted widespread public attention.
However, prosecuting counsel, Wisdom Madaki, urged the court to issue a warrant for the defendant’s arrest under Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), noting that the matter had been repeatedly delayed by Adeyemi’s absence.
Justice Umar agreed with the prosecution, observing that the charges were filed on November 27, 2025, proceedings commenced on December 4, 2025, and that Adeyemi had appeared in court only once before failing to attend subsequent hearings.
The judge consequently ordered his arrest and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026.
Background
The Federal Government has accused Adeyemi of presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), an entity authorities have described as unauthorised.
The case has generated significant public interest, with the prosecution pursuing charges relating to the alleged operation of the body.
The latest arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing criminal proceedings, as authorities prepare to produce the defendant before the court on the next adjourned date.
