The Nigerian Army has apprehended a 36-year-old man, Mr Animashaun Khalid, for allegedly posing as a Major and has handed him over to the Lagos State Police Command for investigation.
Spokesman of the Command, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, Mr Khalid was arrested by soldiers of the 9 Brigade, Ikeja, at the Arena Market in Oshodi while carrying a forged Nigerian Army identity card that displayed his name and the rank of Major.
He was subsequently transferred to the Police Command headquarters, and the case has been assigned to Special Squad I for thorough investigation.
Police authorities said inquiries would centre on tracing the origin of the counterfeit identification, identifying potential accomplices, and determining whether the suspect had used the fake rank to commit other crimes.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, praised the Army for its swift intervention and immediate handover of the suspect.
Mr Jimoh stressed the significance of strong cooperation among security agencies in confronting criminal activity and called on residents to remain observant and promptly report suspicious activity within their neighbourhoods.
He assured that collaboration between the military and police would remain a cornerstone of efforts to bolster public safety across Lagos State.
