An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of two men, Mr Abdullahi Sheidu and Mr Mohammed Sanni, at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre over their alleged involvement in a murder case.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, who presided over the matter on Tuesday, declined to entertain the pleas of the accused and directed that the case file be transmitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. The court adjourned the case to 7 October for further mention.

The defendants, both 37 years old and without confirmed residential addresses, are facing trial for the offence of murder, as defined under state law.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Bamidele, informed the court that the incident occurred on 27 August in Ado-Ekiti. He alleged that the two men jointly attacked one Mr Odims Chukwuemeka, subjecting him to a brutal beating that caused severe injuries resulting in excessive bleeding and, ultimately, his death.

Inspector Bamidele stated that the offence is punishable under Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Following the magistrate’s directive, the accused persons have been remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s review and further proceedings in the case.
