The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Kingsley Eze, who had been on the command’s wanted list for alleged involvement in armed robbery.

Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Sunday that Eze was arrested on Saturday, September 20, in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.

According to Ikenga, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence on the suspect’s whereabouts.

“During the arrest, one magnum pump-action gun and 12 live cartridges were recovered from him,” Ikenga stated.

He explained that the suspect is already in custody and is undergoing interrogation. He added that Eze will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The arrest, the command said, is part of its renewed clampdown on violent crimes across the state, particularly robbery and kidnapping.

Only last month, police operatives arrested a deserter soldier and four others believed to be members of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate.

The gang had reportedly abducted a farmer at Isiagu, Awka, and released him after collecting ransom. Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad stormed their hideout at Notoko, Awka, and arrested the suspects.

Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining the momentum against criminal gangs in the state. He assured residents that the police would continue to rely on credible intelligence and community collaboration to track down offenders.

He warned that Anambra would remain unsafe for criminals, stressing that anyone found to be aiding or engaging in violent crime would face the full weight of the law.
