Troops of 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE, OPWS, have foiled a kidnapping and robbery attempt along the Wukari–Ikyior road in Wukari local government council of Taraba State.
The incident, according to the statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Jalingo, occurred on January 16, 2026, following a distress call reporting that suspected criminals had blocked the road and were attacking civilians.
“Troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base, FOB, in Wukari swiftly responded to the alert and moved to the scene.
On arrival, the suspects reportedly fled into the surrounding bush upon sighting the troops, abandoning their victims. The assailants, however, escaped with their motorcycle,” the troops said.
The two victims who were identified as Mr. Terso Kerso, 48, and Mr. Udongu Terbo, 42, both of whom from Ikyior community in Wukari council, were said to have been rescued during the operation.
Signed by the Brigade spokesperson, Lt. Umar Muhàmmad, the statement said the victims who were found unconscious, were immediately evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari ,FUTHW, where they received urgent medical attention.
“In response to the incident, troops have intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further criminal activities. assuring residents and road users of a sustained security presence,” the statement said.
The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commending the troops for their swift response and professionalism, noted that their timely intervention prevented possible loss of lives.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining proactive security operations across its area of responsibility.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
