Political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Timi Frank, has publicly called out the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over what he described as “anti-democratic and reckless” remarks captured in a now-viral video.
Frank, in a strongly worded press release dated March 21, 2026, accused Gbajabiamila of allegedly encouraging the destabilisation of opposition political parties in Nigeria.
The controversy stems from a video in which Gbajabiamila was allegedly heard telling Hon. Leke Abejide during his wife’s 50th birthday celebration:
“Don’t come to APC. Stay in ADC and scatter them. We like what you’re doing… stay in ADC and win your election… bring Bala Gombe, and we’ll support him. Good luck in court.”
The statement has since triggered outrage on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the implications of such comments from a top presidential aide.
Timi Frank Petitions U.S., Demands Resignation
Reacting to the viral clip, Frank urged the United States government to investigate and sanction Gbajabiamila, while also demanding his immediate resignation.
According to Frank, the alleged statement suggests a deliberate plot by the Presidency to interfere in opposition parties and manipulate democratic institutions.
“Your statement, as Chief of Staff, raises serious concerns about the determination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s regime to truncate democracy,” Frank said.
He added that the remarks could also imply possible interference with the judiciary.
“Inference can be made that there is an infringement on the independence of the judiciary,” he stated.
Opposition Parties Mentioned
Frank alleged that the comments appear to confirm suspicions that the Presidency may be involved in internal crises affecting opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party and the African Democratic Congress.
“When a Chief of Staff speaks, it reflects the body language of the President. This points to a deliberate attempt to weaken opposition and consolidate power,” Frank alleged.
Calls for U.S. Probe
Frank further urged U.S. authorities to examine Gbajabiamila’s financial dealings and tax obligations, citing reports of his American citizenship.
“As an American citizen, he should be held accountable,” Frank said.
He disclosed plans to petition the Embassy of the United States, Abuja over the matter.
Political Tension Rises
The controversy comes amid growing concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and accusations of increasing pressure on opposition figures and parties.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Femi Gbajabiamila nor the Presidency has officially responded to the allegations.
