Popular Nigerian socialite and businessman, Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, has reportedly lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Multiple reports confirmed that the nightlife entrepreneur failed to secure the APC ticket after weeks of consultations and political mobilisation across the constituency.
The celebrity businessman had earlier purchased APC nomination and expression of interest forms, formally declaring his ambition to represent the federal constituency in the House of Representatives under the ruling APC.
His entrance into politics generated widespread reactions across the South-East and social media due to his close association with the “City Boy Movement” and support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to reports, the incumbent lawmaker, Omeogo Canice Moore Nwachukwu, eventually emerged victorious in the APC primary, defeating Cubana Chief Priest in the race for the party’s ticket.
Political observers say zoning arrangements within Imo APC may have played a major role in the outcome of the primary election.
Reactions on social media and online forums have remained sharply divided, with supporters praising Cubana Chief Priest for venturing into politics while critics argued that popularity in entertainment does not automatically translate into political success.
Meanwhile, Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has also emerged as APC’s consensus candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reports indicate that party stakeholders adopted him unopposed before the formal primary process
The developments have continued to spark debates about celebrity politics, political influence, and internal party structures ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
