Troops  of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Sector 3 have arrested a suspected kidnap kingpin linked to the abduction of a retired military officer in Plateau State.

The suspect, identified as Abubakar Ahamadu, 35, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation carried out at about 4:00 p.m. on May 20, 2026.

According to security sources, the suspect is allegedly connected to the kidnapping of retired Colonel Joseph Ajanaku (rtd), who was abducted on January 4 along Rukuba Road in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The arrest is said to be part of ongoing operations by security forces aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates and criminal networks operating across parts of Plateau and neighbouring communities.

Military sources disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation and profiling as investigations continue.

The development comes amid renewed security concerns in Plateau State, where incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks have remained a major challenge for residents and security agencies.

Security operatives have, however, assured the public of sustained operations targeted at restoring peace and tracking down criminal elements in the region.
