Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, describing the results as “concocted” and lacking credibility.

Amaechi made his position known in a strongly worded statement released Tuesday evening following the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary election reportedly won by Atiku Abubakar.

According to Amaechi, the exercise failed to meet the standards of a free, fair, and transparent democratic process, alleging that a large percentage of party members across the country were denied the opportunity to vote.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” Amaechi stated.

The former presidential aspirant said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the results if the process reflected democratic values and transparency.

He accused the ADC leadership of engaging in the same electoral practices the opposition coalition had consistently condemned in Nigeria’s political system, including alleged vote buying, manipulation of results, and voter disenfranchisement.

“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results cannot itself engage in such practices,” he added.

Amaechi further warned that such developments could weaken public confidence in the coalition’s promise to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the development has triggered widespread reactions across social media and online political forums, with supporters and critics debating the future of the opposition coalition.

The controversy also comes amid reports of internal cracks within the coalition, following earlier speculations surrounding the withdrawal of key political figures from the alliance.

As of the time of filing this report, the ADC leadership had not officially responded to Amaechi’s allegations.
