El-Rufai’s Wife Appeals to Tinubu: ‘My Husband Fought Everyone, Including Buhari, to Support Your Presidency’
ABUJA – Asiya El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has made an emotional appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to ensure her husband receives justice and a fair hearing.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Prime Time with Charles Aniagolu on Wednesday evening, monitored by Headlineswave.ng, Asiya said her husband made enormous sacrifices to support Tinubu’s presidential ambition, even confronting political allies, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure Tinubu emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election.
“My husband fought everyone, including Buhari, to support Tinubu to become president,” she said.
She appealed to President Tinubu to allow the judiciary and relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without interference.
“If El-Rufai has done something wrong, let the law take its course,” she said. “But keeping my husband in detention for 143 days is against his fundamental human rights.”
A legal practitioner, Asiya argued that prolonged detention without a speedy judicial determination undermines the principles of justice, fairness and the rule of law.
“It is not fair for President Tinubu to treat my husband this way,” she added, calling on the authorities to either prosecute him in accordance with the law or release him if there is no legal basis for his continued detention.
Her remarks come amid renewed calls by family members and supporters for due process in the handling of the corruption-related cases involving the former Kaduna State governor, whose trial is still before the courts.
