Plateau: Fulani Communities Pay N4.5m Compensation to 38 Farmers Over Farm Destruction
Fulani communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State have paid N4.5 million in compensation to 38 farmers whose farms and crops were destroyed by cattle in three communities.
The affected farms were located in Dambwash, Danbukor and Fokko villages.
The compensation followed an agreement reached on August 19, 2026, after the destruction of the farms. The settlement was facilitated by the Commander of Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) in Bokkos.
The Fulani Ardo of Tarangol District, Isa Shiga Dajji, who participated in the negotiations, confirmed the payment.
According to him, the compensation was intended to promote peaceful relations between farming and herding communities and discourage actions capable of undermining peace in the area.
Isa explained that the money was paid in instalments, with the latest payment representing the final tranche.
He appealed to farmers and herders to remain calm, maintain dialogue and continue working towards peaceful coexistence.
Speaking during the presentation of the compensation on Saturday, Isa said the herding community had taken steps to identify those responsible for the destruction after the incident was reported.
He said those identified were made to compensate the affected farmers, adding that representatives of all parties involved were present during the settlement.
The Sector Commander also described the resolution as a peaceful process, saying the outcome demonstrated how community-based conflict resolution can help prevent disputes between farmers and herders from escalating into violence.
