Rivers APC Guber Ticket: Has Court Judgment Put Kingsley Chinda’s Candidacy in Trouble?
The legal battle surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has opened a fresh question over the party’s 2027 governorship ticket held by Kingsley Chinda.
But contrary to some interpretations, there is no indication from the available reports that the Supreme Court has directly disqualified Chinda as the APC governorship candidate.
The immediate legal development came from the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, which on May 29, 2026, upheld a Rivers State High Court decision nullifying the ward, local government and state APC congresses that produced the Tony Okocha-led executive.
The court dismissed the appeal filed by the Okocha-led faction as incompetent, leaving the earlier High Court order standing.

Chinda emerged as the APC’s Rivers governorship candidate after the party’s May 21, 2026 primary, where he was the sole aspirant following Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s withdrawal.

The plaintiffs have raised questions about his defection from the PDP to the APC, his membership status and his participation in the APC primary. These are allegations before the court, not established findings against Chinda.
