Moses Paul Tells Nyesom Wike: “AMAC Is Not Obio/Akpor, Votes Must Reflect the People’s Will”

The chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Moses Paul, has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting that the outcome of the FCT council election must reflect the will of the electorate.

The election is holding today, with voting scheduled to commence from 8:30 a.m. across designated polling units in the council.

Paul, who is contesting under the platform of the ADC, addressed supporters ahead of the poll, urging voters to remain steadfast and confident in the democratic process.

“In terms of protecting the votes, Senator Kingibe is there, Senator Obika Joshua is there. So our votes must count,” Paul declared.

He added:

“Of course, our votes do count. To the minister, this is not Obio/Akpor, you can’t write votes in AMAC. He cannot.

Somebody should tell the minister that Dr. Mo says that the will of the people will count.”

Political Context

Paul is the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The FCT Minister, however, has been widely reported to maintain a political alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level.

Vision for a “New AMAC”

Outlining his agenda for the council, the ADC candidate pledged bold and assertive leadership, promising to tackle insecurity and economic hardship within AMAC.

According to him, residents of the Federal Capital Territory are seeking governance that delivers tangible improvements in their daily lives.

“On Saturday, there’s going to be a new AMAC, where boldness, objectivity, decisiveness and fearlessness will take centre stage,” he said.

“Enough of people dying, enough of poverty, enough of brigandage. We own this city, Wike does not own the city. The city belongs to the people, the sovereign masses and the young people listening to me.”

Call to Youth and Voters

Paul further called on young people and other eligible voters to actively participate in the election, describing the exercise as an opportunity to redefine governance in the council.

Observers are closely monitoring the conduct of today’s poll as residents head to the ballot from 8:30 a.m. onward.
