Nigerian Army troops have freed Major M.D. Josiah from his abductors following a decisive rescue operation in Bomadi, Delta State.
The mission, carried out by soldiers of the 63 Brigade, led to the storming of the kidnappers’ hideout and the successful recovery of the officer.
Major Josiah had been kidnapped on Monday shortly after attending a wedding in the Kpakiama community. Reports indicate that the armed gang trailed him, dispossessed guests of their phones, and then whisked him away in a vehicle. The gang later abandoned the getaway car in Tuomo community.
According to Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations for the 63 Brigade, the operation was reinforced by critical intelligence from community leaders and residents. This collaboration guided troops directly to the kidnappers’ base at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area.
During the confrontation, Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds. He was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is now stable and receiving treatment.
Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade, commended the soldiers for what he described as their bravery and professionalism. He also underscored the pivotal role played by local residents, describing their cooperation as a reflection of the growing trust between the Army and the people in tackling criminality.
The Brigade Commander assured communities across Delta State that the Army remains resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and maintain peace across the region.
