Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was received by a massive crowd of supporters and sympathizers during a burial ceremony in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Wednesday.
Obi attended the funeral rites of late Catholic Bishop, Most Rev. Peter Nworie Chukwu of the Abakaliki Diocese, where thousands reportedly trooped out to catch a glimpse of the former Anambra governor.
Videos and photos circulating online showed enthusiastic supporters chanting his name and surrounding his convoy as he arrived and departed the event.
According to reports, the burial ceremony attracted several prominent political and religious figures, including Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, and other dignitaries from across the country.
The late Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu, who died at the age of 60 after a brief illness, was described as a humble and devoted cleric whose passing has left a major vacuum in the Catholic community in Ebonyi State.
Observers said the large turnout around Obi once again highlights his enduring popularity, especially among young people and supporters in the South-East region ahead of the 2027 political season.
