The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that the ongoing reforms of the Federal Government are designed to build a more stable, fair, and prosperous Nigeria.
Speaking in Minna, Niger State, during a sensitisation campaign on the “Tinubu Administration’s Reports,” Idris explained that the reforms are anchored on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at reshaping the economy and improving citizens’ welfare.
He noted that some of the government’s toughest policy decisions — including the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange unification — were necessary steps to free up resources, stabilise the naira, and attract long-term investment.
“Fuel subsidy removal was a tough but necessary decision, taken to release funds for infrastructure, education, healthcare, and job creation rather than fuel consumption benefits enjoyed by only a few,” Idris said. He added that the unification of exchange rates was intended to foster transparency and make the economy more investor-friendly.
The minister also highlighted initiatives such as the student loan scheme, small business support, and conditional cash transfers as deliberate interventions to shield vulnerable Nigerians from the immediate impact of the reforms.
“We understand reforms are not always comfortable. Change can be hard, but these are long-term investments to create jobs, reduce poverty, and ensure Nigeria works for all, not just a few,” he said.
He emphasised that the campaign was not only about government informing citizens but also listening to them and engaging in dialogue. “This is about giving citizens access to facts, fostering dialogue, and ensuring truth is not lost in the noise,” he stated.
Idris called on Nigerians to remain patient, united, and informed, stressing that meaningful change requires sacrifice and collective responsibility.
Other ministers at the event also outlined sector-specific interventions. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, represented by Niger State’s Controller of Works, Eyitayo Aluko, listed ongoing federal road projects in the state, including the dualisation of the Ilorin–Jebba–Mokwa and Lambata–Lapai highways.
Similarly, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, represented by state coordinator Dr. Suleiman Ladan, highlighted the administration’s efforts to boost food security through targeted programmes and projects.
The campaign, Idris said, was part of efforts to keep Nigerians informed and involved in shaping the policies designed to secure the country’s long-term growth and stability.
