Fresh violence has again rocked Barkin Ladi in what residents described as another coordinated attack by armed marauders on communities within the local government area.
According to multiple media reports monitored by Headlineswave.ng, at least 10 to 15 people, including a police officer, were reportedly killed during the latest wave of attacks, while several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.
The attacks reportedly occurred in communities such as Sabon Layi, Rakung, Gangare, Zat, and Bet areas of Barkin Ladi, with residents alleging that the gunmen invaded the communities at night, shooting sporadically and forcing villagers to flee for safety.
While your claim mentioned about 11 persons killed and 10 hospitalised, available verified reports as of Tuesday morning show varying casualty figures from different sources.
Some reports confirmed 7 deaths and 6 injuries initially, while later updates placed the death toll between 10 and 15.
Community leaders and youth groups in the area condemned the attacks, expressing frustration over what they described as repeated security failures despite the presence of security checkpoints in the area.
The violence comes amid renewed insecurity across several parts of Plateau State, where communities in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, and other local government areas have witnessed recurring deadly attacks in recent months.
When Governor Caleb Mutfwang visited the affected community Monday, he assured residents that his administration remains committed to restoring peace, strengthening security, and ensuring justice for victims of the recent attacks.
“We will stand with our people in this difficult time. Plateau must rise again stronger, united, and peaceful,” the governor stated.
Security agencies are yet to release a final official casualty figure as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
Headlineswave.ng will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as more official information emerges.
