The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced that Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Chairman of the Board’s Governing Council, will serve as the Role Model and Guest Speaker at its Business Mentorship Lecture Series (BMLS) for the third quarter of 2025.

The virtual event is scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, at 10 a.m., and will be streamed via Zoom Webinar and the NCDMB’s YouTube channel. Richmond Osuji, a renowned compere in the oil and gas sector, will moderate the session.

Launched in 2019 under Section 67 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, the BMLS supports capacity-building for operators, contractors, and stakeholders. The one-day programme brings together seasoned leaders to inspire growth and enhance competitiveness among service and operating companies in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

This edition is designed to empower indigenous companies through targeted mentorship, strategic insights, and business advisory support, reflecting the Board’s broader mandate to boost Nigerian participation and expertise in the energy sector.

Dr. Kachikwu, a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s petroleum industry, has over three decades of experience in leadership and policy reform. He previously served as Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), chaired its Board, and was Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel at ExxonMobil Nigeria. As Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, he championed key reforms including the National Gas Policy (2017) and the National Petroleum Policy (2017), which paved the way for the Petroleum Industry Bill.

In 2021, Kachikwu published four books on Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, adding to his impressive academic achievements. A first-class law graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he emerged as the overall best student at the Nigerian Law School, winning multiple awards including the Chief T.O. Elias Prize. He later earned a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, graduating top of his class.

Internationally, he has served as President of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO), and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). He has also received numerous accolades, including the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Lifetime Achievement Award (2022).

Hosting this edition of the BMLS underscores NCDMB’s commitment to building industry capacity under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe. The Board is advancing several training initiatives, including the Centre for Marine and Offshore Technology Development (CMOTD) programme and graduate-trainee partnerships with PFL Engineering. These initiatives aim to equip Nigerian firms with skills and strategies for long-term success.

“We are honoured to have a visionary like Dr. Kachikwu share his expertise in our Business Mentoring Series,” said Engr. Ogbe. “His remarkable journey and contributions will undoubtedly motivate emerging companies, driving sustainable development in the oil and gas value chain.”

Past editions of the BMLS have featured prominent leaders including Atedo Peterside, founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc; Tony Attah, former Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Limited; Mutiu Sunmonu, ex-Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company; Mike Sangster, Managing Director of Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria; and Elohor Aiboni, former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited. These sessions have provided strategic insights to over 2,500 service companies.

Oil and gas firms are encouraged to visit the NCDMB website and social media platforms for registration and updates on participation.
