Kwakwanso Replies Ali Modu Sheriff
The vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has responded to recent comments by former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, over his claim that the North would not support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement that has gone viral on social media, Kwankwaso dismissed Sheriff’s position, arguing that Obi’s electoral performance in the North during the 2023 presidential election proves otherwise.
According to Kwankwaso:
“Peter Obi secured 2.8 million votes in the North and together, the OK ticket is a formidable force. I advise Senator Sheriff to speak to the serious insecurity and humanitarian challenges facing his home state, rather than making divisive and poorly considered remarks in any future national TV appearance.”
Kwankwaso’s remarks came days after Sheriff, during a television interview, asserted that Northern voters would not vote for Obi in the next presidential election.
The exchange has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with supporters of both politicians debating the future of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
While Kwankwaso insisted that the North has already demonstrated significant support for Obi, Sheriff maintains that the region is unlikely to back the former Anambra State governor in 2027.
The latest war of words highlights the growing political contest for Northern votes as parties and potential alliances continue to position themselves ahead of the next general election.
