The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping teachers with 21st-century pedagogical skills designed to strengthen professionalism, enhance classroom efficiency, and promote active learner participation.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, stated this in Ilorin during a workshop themed “Innovative Approaches to Teaching English and Mathematics for Better Learning Outcomes.”
He called on teachers to adopt modern teaching strategies to raise the quality of classroom delivery and improve students’ academic performance. Olohungbebe underscored that proficiency in English Language is essential for effective communication, while Mathematics remains the bedrock of logical reasoning and scientific advancement.
The Commissioner explained that the training formed part of deliberate efforts to align Kwara’s education system with global best practices, ensuring that every child in the state continues to have access to quality education.
He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustained investment in teacher development and reforms within the sector, noting that these measures have significantly raised the standard of teaching and improved learning outcomes across schools in the state.
Olohungbebe encouraged teachers to consistently refine their teaching methods to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving education landscape, urging them to embrace patience and inclusivity in their classrooms while applying newly acquired skills to positively shape their students’ growth.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Olanrewju Rebecca Bake, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his swift interventions in teacher training and manpower development, saying such actions were crucial to advancing the education system.
Bake reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of educators and other support staff as a cornerstone for comprehensive sectoral development. She appealed to teachers to prioritise quality delivery and seize opportunities presented by workshops, seminars, and conferences to remain aligned with international standards.
Participants at the workshop expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his sustained drive to revitalise the state’s education system and called for continuity in such programmes to strengthen teacher competence and professional growth.
